The Next Big Thing: Angelina Chen
For 51³Ô¹ÏÍøºÚÁÏ Puxi senior Angelina Chen, the numbers add up—both in and out of the pool. A dedicated student and competitive swimmer, Angelina has spent years balancing grueling training sessions with a rigorous academic schedule. This fall, she’s diving into her next chapter at Brown University, where she will be swimming for the Bears while pursuing a degree in applied mathematics and economics.
Can you tell us more about what you will specialize in on the Brown swim team?
At Brown, I will specialize in the breaststroke, mainly the 100 M breaststroke, though I also do some freestyle. I also hope to swim for the medley relay, where each swimmer takes on a different stroke—backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and freestyle.
What do you plan to study at Brown?
I plan to major in applied mathematics and economics. Beyond that, I also want to explore my interest in entrepreneurship and business, because it has always been a goal of mine to start a business.
How would you describe the swimming community at SAS?
The swimming community at 51³Ô¹ÏÍøºÚÁÏis really strong. Whether you’re on the boys' or girls' team, everyone is close. Many of us have grown up together—some since second grade, others since they joined the swim team. We’re not just teammates in the pool but also friends outside of it, which makes these friendships even more meaningful.
Best of luck next year, Angelina! We’ll be cheering you on as you make waves at Brown—both in the pool and in the classroom.
